Story of the wine:
Although grown throughout Italy Barbera’s natural home is Piemonte, (roughly half the wine of all Piemonte’s wine is Barbera) indeed its birthplace is usually thought to be in the hills of
Monferrato around the town of Asti. Often described as the people’s wine’ of Piemonte it is a highly versatile variety capable of styles running from the very light and fruity to the substantial and complex. A distinctive characteristic of Barbera is its quite high levels of acidity that make a consummate wine to accompany food.
Grape(s): 100% Barbera
Area: From 25ha. of vineyards in the San Nicolao area in the commune around the village of Nizza Monferrato.
San Nicolao is from the best areas for the newly fashionable Barbera grape, the hills around the town of Asti in the region of Piemonte in northwest Italy. With its bags of fruit and well-balanced texture it is perfect with Italian food. A lovely, soft flavour with a touch of brambles on the nose. A vibrant, lively wine that finishes with a touch of crispness.
