Story of the wine:
Verdicchio is one of the most familiar of Italian wines particularly in the past with its famous ‘amphora’ bottle. This variety under the name Verdicchio is almost exclusively grown in the Marche region, mostly on the rolling hills near the Adriatic coast and has been since the 14th century. However recent research has indicated that it is identical to Trebbiano di Soave. In the hands of a good winemaker this much under-rated variety is a grape that is capable of making an intensely flavoured wine with good structure. Piersanti is a medium sized winery that is focussing on making wines of depth and character and this is reflected throughout the range.
Grape(s): 90% Verdicchio, 10% other white wines
Region: San Paolo di Jesi - Marche
Verdicchio, rarely seen outside its native region of the Marche on the Adriatic coast, is a much under-rated grape variety and in capable hands, such as the Piersanti winery, it can make a character wine. A ripe, fat flavour and good, balancing acidity with roundness on the finish.
