Story of the Wine:
It is now surely the time for Lambrusco to return to its origins, which is a dry, full sparkling red wine. Quercioli is a wine that has been made by Medici with a view to returning the reputation of Lambrusco to its former glory. It is a single vineyard wine and with lower yields to enable greater concentration and depth. The Lambrusco (Italian for ‘wild grape’) variety is really a group of 10 varieties found mostly in Emilia. The Grasparossa variety is centred on the province of Reggio Emilia and Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro is, according to the Oxford Companion to Wine “Considered the finest DOC of Lambrusco”. Within the estate is an old Franciscan monastery which has been preserved and probably part of the estate used to belong to this monastery.
Grape(s): 100% Lambrusco Grasparossa
Area: From vineyards in Castelvetro near Modena
Leave your baggage behind about this wine. This is the Lambrusco of Emilia Romagna one of Italy’s best gastronomic areas – not the old supermarket sludge. A vivacious fruitiness is the first sense one has of this wine on the nose. On the palate the tone changes to a full dryness. A nice long finish.
