Story of the wine:
This is a single vineyard on the estate and Le Grive is the Italian name for the thrush bird, which live in the juniper bushes that surround the vineyard. This small estate is perched on a hilltop and produces mainly late harvest Moscato but Giancarlo Scaglione, the owner, winemaker, former teacher at Alba Oenological School and former Technical Director at Gancia also makes this exciting and unusual blend.
Grape(s): 80% Barbera, 20% Pinot Nero
Area: From a single vineyard on the estate which is near the village of Loazzolo in the hills south of Asti.
One of the pioneers of modern Piemonte winemaking Giancarlo Scaglione owns a tiny hilltop estate where he puts together some of the regions most exciting wine. Le Grive is an unusual blend of barriques aged Barbera and Pinot Nero. Softness and ripeness are followed by an incredible length on the palate.
