Story of the wine:
The story of the wines of Languedoc is tied up with the story of the railways in the 19th century. With the increasing demand from France’s growing cities the vineyards in the region expanded exponentially. Although the region has a reputation for vast quantities of ordinary there are plenty of producers who understand that survival in the future lies with improving the quality of their wines. Started in 1950 with 30 ha Domaine des Deux Ruisseaux is still run by the Valery family and has expanded to just over 100ha of vines. The name of the estate translates into the Domaine of the two streams, which run through the estate.
Grape(s): 100% Viognier
Area: From the estates vineyards around the town of Sauvian between Beziers and the coast
The Languedoc region has the capability of making excellent value wines when the producer, such as Deux Ruisseaux focuses on quality. A firm and herby nose with ripe fruit is balanced on the palate by a firm crispness. There is a creamy ripeness followed by a long savoury finish.
