Story of the Wine:
As with much of Campania and its wine the white Falanghina grape is probably of Greek origin. It is a late ripener and needs plenty of sun – of which there is no shortage in the vineyards around Naples. Beneventano is an IGT area to the east of Naples centred on the town of Benevento. Falanghina, despite its antiquity, is one of the "new" grape varieties that are being re-discovered in Italy. It has good extract and acidity which allows it to develop whilst ageing in the bottle. The Falanghina grape has its origins in Roman times and is now making excellent and under-rated wines north of Naples. A soft floral nose is followed by a delicious fruity flavour on the palate and a lovely crisp finish.
