Story of the wine:
South African wines have been steadily improving in quality over the last 25 years and the whites are focussed on Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon. The name of the winery, Allee Bleue, refers to the statuesque blue eucalyptus trees that line the entrance and the estate, which goes back to the French Huguenots in the late 17th century. It has been recently revived after its purchase in 1999 by the Dauphin family. The Starlette range from Allee Bleue represents what the winery considers to be their easy drinking value for money wines.
Grape(s): 63% Sauvignon Blanc 37% Chenin Blanc
This is from Franschhoek district in South Africa one of the oldest in the country and from a consistently good winery. Fruity with a touch of lychees on the nose and a lovely balance on the rounded, crisp palate.
